Why Microneedling Needs to be On Your Post-Summer To-Do List

As summer has come to an end (minus the weather), our attention turns to school books, sports practices, and all things learning. The busy woman may have very little time to consider how she could treat her skin to the pampering it deserves after a long, hot season. We may still be in the thick of the warmth, but that doesn’t mean we can take a good, compassionate look at what our skin has been through and what its current needs are. The fortunate thing about some of today’s beauty treatments is that they address multiple concerns simultaneously. Microneedling is one of them, which is why we highly recommend this technique for post-summer beauty.

What Microneedling Does

If you’ve heard of microneedling, you may imagine the good old dermal roller, a handheld device that you roll over your own skin to poke tiny holes in the outer layer. Ouch! For most people, dermal rolling, the DIY version of microneedling, is difficult to tolerate for something that needs to be performed routinely. Our version of microneedling is much different.

Professional microneedling in our Houston office involves an automated applicator that presses tiny needles a few millimeters into the dermis. Treatment is conducted after the skin has been desensitized with a topical numbing cream. Furthermore, the automation of the handpiece hastens the completion of the entire process. A full-face microneedling treatment may be finished within thirty minutes.

What’s the purpose, you ask? To invite more collagen and elastin into the epidermis. This is especially important as we age and sustain sun damage during our day to day lives. The ultraviolet light we all get exposed to breaks down the collagen strands that support firm, youthful-looking skin. Elastin also gets depleted, depriving the skin of plumpness and optimal moisture. By creating micro-injuries in the epidermis, we stimulate the production of elastin to fill these wounds (which they could hardly be called). Collagen protein also floods the area, remodeling a more youthful foundation.

What Microneedling Treatment Can Do For You

Just one microneedling treatment can restore a healthy glow and vibrancy to the skin. Additional reasons to schedule periodic microneedling, with or without PRP, include:

  • Smoother lines and wrinkles
  • Smaller pores
  • Fewer breakouts
  • Lighter acne scars
