Visit us for IPL Treatment!
Our skin changes along our journey through life. Some of what happens is related to aging, some is determined by our genes. Alongside the factors that we cannot control are those that we can, such as sun exposure. Unfortunately for many people, the radical damage that can stem from a summertime of fun in the sun is learned too late. Here, we discuss how IPL treatments in our Houston office can help you mitigate the detrimental effects of sun exposure.
What is IPL?
IPL laser treatments deliver intense pulses of light to permeate the skin. The average IPL treatment utilizes a range of wavelengths of light, each of which has a particular effect on brown pigmentation that has developed over time. It is possible to target specific pigment by cutting off wavelengths of light that might cause harm to the skin’s natural pigment. Because of this, IPL can safely be performed on individuals with fair skin as well as those with darker skin tones.
Many of the spots that develop on the face, shoulder, neck, chest, and backs of the hands are the result of sun exposure (or sunless tanning). An IPL treatment heats up the structure in which pigment lies, thereby causing the discoloration to lighten. The process incited by IPL is referred to as selective photothermolysis. As the pigment beneath the skin breaks up, the appearance of the spot may actually look worse at first. Over time pigment scatters and gets absorbed by the body. To achieve optimal tone may take a series of treatments.
Extended Benefits of IPL Treatment
IPL treatments are beneficial because each session can address multiple problems at once. As intense light permeates the uppermost layers of skin, it is common to observe improvements in:
- Acne redness and inflammation.
- Small facial veins.
- Pore size.
- Pigment irregularities beyond sunspots.
- Cherry angiomas (red moles).
- Freckles and age spots.
- Rosacea redness.
- Port wine stains.
- Fine lines.
